Every year non-EU students must submit their residence permit -
issued for any purpose - at the Admissions Office of the appropriate Faculty (Segreteria Studenti) on applying,
i.e. after paying the first instalment of tuition
fees.
Permits for study purposes are renewed to students who have passed at least one
examination in their first year of study, and 2 examinations in subsequent
years.
Permits can be
renewed also in the event that a student has passed only one exam against
documentary evidence of poor health conditions or other serious reasons. Under
no circumstances, the number of renewals can exceed the limit set out by the
law; in fact, study permits can be
extended for no more than 3 years beyond the length of the degree programme (D.P.R. no. 394/1999, art. 46, para. 4).
