The labour market with a PhD at hand

Statistic shows that the vast majority of PhD graduates nowadays are not expected to land a permanent position in Academia, but will eventually leave the Academic path to enter the general labour market. In front of these data, the fact that the PhD was originally meant as the first step of the Academic career raises questions about the sense of pursuing this path in the current situation, and focuses the attention on the employability of PhD holders and on their perspectives of professional fulfillment. 

Luckily, the answers to those questions are different than what many fear when they are close to the end of their PhD course, and while complexity exists in the professional transition of researchers, a manifold of opportunities can be exploited by those who are aware of their skills and ready to explore the general context. 

In this five-step discussion, participants will be lead in a journey through the many facets of this issue, gaining awareness about their position in the general economic scenario, the opportunities that are offered, the challenges to be faced and how to do it successfully. Taking a researcher’s stand, we will explore the labour market, our PhD experience and ourselves, in order to under to learn how to identify career paths that are suitable for us, and how to achieve them by properly using the instruments in our possession (CV, cover Letter, job interview, networking…) through a functional storytelling of our experience.

All the lectures will be head by trainers from the network of Find Your Doctor, the job agency that, since 2014, specializes in the valorisation of PhDs and researchers on the market. All the lecturers are PhD holders.
