Course overview

The course aims to develop students’ skills of English for Academic Purposes. Attention will be given to both written and oral abilities, with particular focus on the areas listed below. Active participation is essential.

Writing Skills

- professional email skills

- aspects of academic writing:

sentence and paragraph structure, academic vocabulary building, word order, verb tense and voice, register (formal/informal style), tips for clear and effective writing

- abstracts, summaries, reports

- introduction to corpus resources and tools for corpus research

Oral Skills: Presenting in English

- presentations: structure and slide preparation

- delivery: appropriate language and body language, signaling, rapport with audience
