Simone Castellan was born in Treviso, Italy, in 1971. He received the Master and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Padova (Padova, Italy).

He is currently employed at the Department of Engineering and Architecture of the University of Trieste (Trieste, Italy), as a Researcher in the scientific area of power converters, machines, and drives and he is assistant professor of power electronics.

His main research interests are in the field of power converters employed for reactive power, harmonic and flicker compensation, fault-tolerant electric drives, high power electric drives, renewable energy sources, generation and distribution systems of medium voltage DC grids.
