Established in 1994, the Bovec Summer school attracts every year
in August university students from Italy, Slovenia, Austria, Croatia, Bosnia-Hercegovina
and Bulgaria for a multicultural, multilingual two-week course in the little Alpine village of Bovec
(also known as Plezzo in Italian and Flitsch in German), located in Slovenia near the Italian and
Austrian borders.
The courses are organized by the Alpen-Adria-Universität of Klagenfurt (Austria) in cooperation
with the Universities of Trieste (Italy), Udine (Italy), Ljubljana (Slovenia), Maribor (Slovenia)
and Koper (Slovenia), and with the sponsorship of the Austrian Federal Ministry for Public Education,
Science and Culture.
The aim of the initiative is to promote reciprocal knowledge among university students in the
multinational Alps-Adriatic region. Every year courses deal with a different specific topic related
to cultural, social, historic issues common to the Alps-Adriatic regions.
