What is the Statement of comparability and qualifications certification?
The Statement of comparability and qualifications certification is an "identification of the level of the foreign degree with reference to
the cycles of the Bologna Process and the levels of the European Qualifications Framework. This comparison does not guarantee in any way
the formal recognition of the title within a national system, but it is a useful indication for those institutions that evaluate
qualifications during different recognition procedures: the Statement of Comparability of the qualification has the weight of opinion only,
and does not in any way bind the institutions during their assessment and recognition procedures". (See the CIMEA website)
Where can I have my documents translated?
If you live abroad, you can have your documents translated by a certified translator and have such translation confirmed by the Italian Consulate in your country. By contrast, if you live in Italy, you can have them translated by a translator (also by a non-professional one) who must swear before the local Court as to the translation’s accuracy and fidelity.
How would I know whether my qualification is accepted for university enrolment?
To be eligible for admission to a first-cycle or single-cycle degree (laurea or laurea magistrale a ciclo unico), you have to hold a foreign school leaving qualification that satisfies the requirements for access to university education in the awarding country (to the comparable degree programme), and that was conferred on completion of minimum 12 years of previous global schooling. If your secondary qualification was conferred after a school period shorter than 12 years, you have to give evidence that you have successfully completed additional studies at university level to bridge the gap in your secondary education up to the general requirement of 12 years. A few school qualifications are subject to special admission conditions: see list.
If you already hold a three-year degree and wish to apply for a second-cycle programme (laurea magistrale), a special Commission will decide upon your admission on the basis of your university curriculum and specific testing.
I attend university abroad. Can I pursue my education at your University?
If you have passed university examinations abroad, you can apply for transfer credit. You have of course to give evidence of your academic career by submitting a legalized certificate attesting exams and relevant scores (transcript of records), and a detailed description of each course (syllabus). A translation of the transcript and syllabus may not be necessary when issued in English or another language which is accepted by the Degree course (check here). Instead of the transcript you may submit a legalized diploma supplement. Please note: you can no longer be registered as a regular student in the foreign university! If you wish to know in advance which exams you can be granted as transfer credit, you may contact a lecturer/coordinator of the programme and ask a preliminary and unofficial evaluation.
Do I have to take admission examinations?
Only non–EU students living outside Italy have to take a test in Italian language – usually orally - in the University of Trieste. You are exempted from the test if you hold a recognized certificate such as CILS, CELI, PLIDA, etc. (level B2 at least), or you hold a school qualification issued by one of these foreign/international schools.
After passing this test, you’ll have to take and pass the admission exam, if you have applied for a limited-entry programme. For the remaining programmes, all students will be tested in order to check adequate knowledge, according to the specific requirements of the programme. However, as for the latest, you can apply for enrolment even though the test result is not satisfactory.

How many places are available to non-EU students living abroad?
The number of places is determined every year by the university for each degree programme.
In the event that I am not admitted (because of unavailable places) do I get another chance to enroll?
In the event that you have not qualified for a place within the quotas you can re-apply for either another programme in the same university or the same programme in another university, provided quotas are still available and the school qualification allows access to the chosen programme.
