Digital Image Processing (ING-INF/01; CFU 9) Prof. Giovanni Ramponi Course programme (preliminary): - Introduction to digital image processing: perception, sensors, sampling and quantization; - Notions about human vision - Image acquisition - Image display - Image enhancement in the spatial domain: histogram, transformations, simple linear filters; - Image enhancement in the frequency domain: transforms, filters; - Restoration of images with various degradations; inverse filter, Wiener filter, nonlinear filters; - Image segmentation techniques: morphological operators, contour extraction, skeletonization; - Representation of boundaries and shapes; object recognition; - Basic notions about color; - Image compression and coding using the DCT and using wavelets; lossy and lossless coding; - Introduction to video sequences; Motion-compensated video coding; format conversions. - Basic tools for image understanding and analysis
