• Skepticism about the role of syntax in reconstructing genealogical relations.

• Emonds and Faarlund's presentation and discussion of the change from OV to VO in the history of English and their treatment of Pintzuk and Taylor (2006) - the slides presented in class are available here.
  

ASSIGNMENT:

Read the first nine pages of the paper downloadable here (pages 227-235).
Highlight all the facts and new facts presented by the author in those pages.
Whenever you find a technical term you don't fully understand, look it up!
