MIPE has been created by Martino Jerian for his Electronic Engineering master thesis at the University of Trieste, in the Image Processing Laboratory (IPL), with the help of professor Sergio Carrato. The work has been done in collaboration with the Parma Reparto Investigazioni Scientifiche dei Carabinieri, which is the scientific investigation group of the Italian Military Police.

MIPE has been presented at the IEE International Symposium on Imaging for Crime Detection and Prevention 2005 (see the article) and described in a journal paper: Elsevier "Forensic Science International", vol. 167, p. 207 (2007).

The MIPE project is now becoming a start-up company: AMPED.
